Agra is a wonderful place located in Uttar Pradesh. It is a city of historical importance on the banks of river Yamuna. Agra falls in the golden triangle, one of the much acclaimed heritage belt in north India. Other two cities in the golden triangle belt are Agra and Jaipur. This is the city of ancient relevance and is also mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. In Mahabharata, it was referred as Agrivana, a jungle as we call. Winters in Agra are cool but the summers are hot. The city was the capital of Mughal empire once upon a time. As per the historical records, this is the place where Maharishi Angira lived once upon a time. There was a Persian garden founded by Babar on the banks of river Yamuna. The Red Fort is a part of the architectural beauty of this city and the credit of building this fort goes to emperor Akbar. This fort is in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. It is said that emperor Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son in this fort and from here, he used to see the glimpse of Taj Mahal, another historical monument which he made. After the fall of Mughal empire, the city was under Maratha influence and finally, it fell under British influence.

Other important place is the historic Fatehpur Sikri and this was built by emperor Akbar. Here, one can find the famous Buland darwaxa . This is in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. One of the splendid monuments of Agra is the Taj Mahal. This is a wonder of the world and is built in pure white marble. This monument is also called a tear drop of love on the surface of time. It was made in the remembrance of Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved wife of emperor Shah Jahan.
