Jodhpur

Jodhpur is mesmerizing from the point of view of heritage and is one of the fabulous cities from the point of international tourism. This is a very important city of Rajasthan and has been given the label of a metropolitan city. IN the earlier times, this was the capital of Mewar kingdom and it is well known for the monuments of architecture. Because of the shiny weather throughout the year, the city is also referred as the Sun city. Being in Jodhpur and not seeing the famous Mehrangarh fort will be a big mistake for the tourist. The Mehrangarh fort that stands tall on the hill was the main protector of the city from the enemies during the earlier centuries. The fort was built around 1460 by Rao Jodha. In this fort, one can find the Daulat khana comprising of the treasures of Mehrangarh museum. One can find the preserved collections during the time of the Mughal period. One can also find sme classic examples of Marwar paintings. There is also the temple of Chamunda mata in the fort, the patron goddess of the royal family. Another important attraction of Jodhpur is the Umaid Bhavan palace. In the present times, a part of palace is run by the Taj hotels. The palace is located on the Chittar hill. There are three divisions in the palace. One is for the king, other the hotel and the third one is the museum. The palace is constructed in the sand stone and marble. From Jodhpur, the tourists can visit to another place of attraction by the name Mandhore. Eight km from the west side of Jodhpur, there is an artificial lake by the name Kaylana lake. This can be a good picnic spot for the tourists. Move a distance of five km from the city and you can see another lake by the name Balsamand lake.
